Every outdoor wooden deck needs joints between the decking boards so that the wood can work and rainwater can run off. Spacers should be used to ensure that the joint spacing is even across the entire terrace. These prevent the gaps between the joints from varying in width during the construction of the terrace.
Instructions for screwing decking boards
There are two types of spacers:
The permanently installed spacers are fixed between the substructure and decking boards during decking installation. This creates a gap not only between the decking boards, but also between the substructure and the decking boards, which ensures better ventilation of the decking. The disadvantage of these patio joint holders is that the amount required per square meter is significantly higher than with freely movable models. In addition, the spacers are not suitable for concealed decking screw fastening systems.
Spacer Terrafix
Freely movable spacers are placed between the already screwed decking boards and the boards that are still to be screwed together when installing the wooden decking. It is always best to place a decking joint retainer at the intersection of the decking boards and substructure. After screwing them down, the spacers can be removed again and used for the next row of planks. As a result, the requirement is significantly lower than for permanently installed spacers. However, for optimum structural wood protection, a spacer profile should be used.
