Screw connection and tool

Decking boards can be screwed visibly or concealed. Here you will find decking screws and fastening systems for fastening without visible screws, as well as spacers and tools.

Concealed screw connection

A wooden decking made of durable tropical wood places high demands on its fastening system. If you want to fasten your decking boards without visible screws, you should use systems that are screwed in from below and function as a fixed and sliding system. BioMaderas clips have been tried and tested for years and offer design advantages over traditional fastenings.

Visible screw connection

Visible screw fastening of decking boards is the classic method and offers the advantage over concealed fastening, for example, that the boards are easier to replace. This variant is also cheaper and easier to install. For the screwing of particularly hard and durable tropical wood floorboards, particular attention should be paid to rust-free and break-proof stainless steel. The screws at Betterwood are made for this.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Visible fixings are easier to install and more cost-effective, while concealed fixings offer a more aesthetically pleasing finish with no visible screws. The choice depends on individual preference and the desired appearance.

With concealed fastening, clips are inserted into the groove of the decking boards and screwed to the substructure. This ensures a uniform joint width and invisible fastening. Make sure to fit the clips firmly but without applying too much pressure so as not to damage the boards.

A2 or A4 stainless steel screws are ideal as they are corrosion-resistant and durable. For tropical wood, screws with a drill point are recommended to minimize pre-drilling and avoid cracks in the wood.

The spacer should ensure the recommended joint width (usually 5-8 mm) to allow sufficient ventilation and water drainage. Choose spacers made of robust material such as plastic or metal, which are durable and weather-resistant.

You will need the following for installation:
Cordless screwdriver with suitable bit.
Measuring tape and spirit level.
Spacer or spacer.
Wood drill bit (for tropical wood).
Rubber mallet for adjusting the planks.
