Maintain parquet

High quality solid wood parquet requires a good surface treatment that protects the wood and adds shine. There are also Parquet, which is already sealed with a polish at the factory. But also untreated wooden floors and solid wood floorboards can be maintained and sealed after installation. Resealing is also required after sanding for renovation.

Frequently asked questions about the care and renovation of parquet (FAQ)

Sanding solid teak parquet is an effective way to remove scratches, dents, and discoloration, giving the floor a like-new appearance. Due to the hardness of teak and to achieve a perfect finish, professional equipment is required. The process involves several steps:

1. Coarse sanding: Removes old surface treatment and rough bumps.
2. Intermediate sanding: Refines the surface with a medium grain.
3. Finishing touches: Provides a perfectly smooth surface in preparation for the new treatment.

The edges and corners then need to be sanded with a special edge sander. After thorough cleaning, the floor is ready for a new surface treatment with oil and wax.

Instructions for sanding parquet

After sanding, the wood's surface is open-pored and needs to be protected. Oiling and waxing emphasize the natural grain and protect the wood from within.

1. Oiling: Apply a high-quality parquet oil (hard oil) thinly and evenly with a roller or brush. Allow the oil to absorb according to the manufacturer's instructions, then completely remove any excess oil that hasn't been absorbed with a lint-free cloth.
2. Let dry: The oil needs time to cure. Please allow time for the oil to dry before walking on the floor or placing furniture on it.
3. Waxing (optional): For additional protection and a satin-matte shine, a thin layer of hard wax can be applied and polished after the oil has completely dried. This increases the durability of the surface.

Instructions for oiling & waxing

Proper cleaning is crucial for the longevity of an oiled teak floor.

Daily cleaning: Loose dirt and dust should be removed dry with a broom, mop or vacuum cleaner with a parquet brush.

Regular wet cleaning: For heavier soiling, wipe the floor with a damp cloth. This means wringing the cloth thoroughly to avoid puddles of water remaining on the wood. Use a moisturizing wood floor soap in the cleaning water. This not only cleans but also conditions the oiled surface with every use, maintaining its protective function.
