The sound of the rainforests

This is what the Amazon rainforest sounds like just after sunset. The recording is an excerpt from the art project Fragments of Extinction - Fragments of Extinction - by David Monacchi.

The musician's team travels along the equator and captures the sounds of the tropical forests in the Amazon, Africa and Asia. The expeditions are expensive. The recording devices must be able to withstand the high humidity and heat and be installed in such a way that they cannot be damaged either by the climate or by curious animals. The result brings the biodiversity of these places to life for us too.

Half of the species on our planet will be extinct by the end of the century, according to current forecasts. Many species in threatened ecosystems such as tropical rainforests are disappearing before they are discovered. Thanks to Monacchi's sound project, you can now delve into the depths of endangered nature and hear what is lost when we fail to protect tropical forests from destruction.
