This is what the Amazon rainforest sounds like shortly after sunset. The recording is an excerpt from the art project Fragments of Extinction – Fragments of Extinction – by David Monacchi.
The team around the musician travels along the equator and captures the sounds of the tropical forests in the Amazon, Africa and Asia. The expeditions are costly. The recording devices must tolerate the high humidity and heat well and be installed in such a way that they cannot be damaged by the climate or curious animals. The result brings the biodiversity of these places to life for us too.
According to current forecasts, half of the species on our planet will be extinct by the end of the century. Many species in endangered ecosystems such as the tropical rainforest disappear even before they are discovered. Thanks to Monacchi’s sound project, you can now delve into the depths of endangered nature and hear what will be lost if we fail to protect tropical forests from destruction.
