Wooden terrace foundation

CONSULTING ” DECKING BOARDS ” foundation

Foundation of a wooden terrace

In the area Preparing the substrate you can find out what preparatory work is necessary on the different substrates of a wooden decking. At this point, we would like to explain the principle according to which the support points of the substructure are set.

Support points of a substructure

The support points of a substructure Depending on the substrate, exposed aggregate concrete slabs, post shoes, decking pads or pedestals can be used.

The distances and number of support points are defined by the span of the plane above. The greater the span of the upper level, the fewer support points are required.

A large substructure span reduces the number of support points. The use of counter battens as a second substructure level then brings additional savings.

When does counter-battening make sense?

Many support points can be saved by using counter battens. However, the use of counter battens is only worthwhile if the creation of the support points involves a relatively large amount of work and costs.

We recommend counter-battening when…

  • a construction height of more than 30 cm is to be achieved.
  • concrete foundations have to be poured as support points or post shoes are used.

With all other construction methods, the support points are usually pedestals or decking pads, which are very easy to install and relatively inexpensive. In this case, counter-battening makes no sense.
