What are the characteristics of metal garden furniture?

Metal garden furniture has not yet gone out of fashion. From cast iron to modern aluminum frames: the variety is huge. But how questionable are the plastics used and is furniture made from industrial materials really as durable as you might think?

The classic – iron garden furniture

Metals are far less common than wood and plastics in the manufacture of garden furniture. The most traditional material is iron, which used to be elaborately forged into filigree garden furniture, but is now also manufactured industrially. With the right coating, iron can also last a long time outdoors, but may need to be protected from constant contact with moisture and rain. In addition, such garden furniture, some of which is also made of cast iron, is relatively heavy and can leave marks on your balcony decking or patio when moved.

How good is garden furniture made of aluminum or stainless steel?

Aluminum garden furniture is much lighter than its iron counterpart and is also very durable. However, you should pay attention to the environmental aspect here, as the production of aluminum is very energy-intensive and the material is not always recyclable. Stainless steel is now also popular for garden furniture, but is even more expensive than aluminum and definitely heavier. Interesting garden furniture can be created when stainless steel is combined with high-quality woods, for example teakis combined. These materials harmonize well together and are durable.
