BETTERWOOD ” CONSULTING ” WOOD TILES ” LAYING

Laying wooden tiles

Laying the wooden tiles with the plug-in system is relatively simple. If you observe the following instructions, you will achieve excellent results in a short time.

Laying pattern

The wooden tiles from Betterwood are made of tropical wood of the highest durability (resistance class 1) and measure 30x30cm. The plastic grid of the substructure allows for installation in two variants: parallel or in a checkerboard pattern.

Underground

  • Lay the tiles on a firm and level surface that dries well and allows water to drain away. Concrete, concrete tiles, ceramic tiles, screed flooring, asphalt or similar are suitable for this purpose. We do not recommend laying on building protection mats, as these can store water.
  • The substrate should have a slight slope for rainwater runoff. Each tile stands on over 50 short legs, which prevent the wooden tiles from blocking water.
  • If you want to lay on an uneven or soft surface (e.g. lawn), you should cover the surface with a layer of gravel about fifteen centimeters thick with a grain size of 0/45. Ensure good water drainage here too.

Assembly

  • The tiles are easily connected using the integrated plug-in system on the underside. No tools are required for this.
  • If necessary, you can cut the tiles lengthwise and crosswise to the wooden slats. You can cut the plastic substructure and wooden slats to size using a hand-held circular saw, for example. Here you will find detailed instructions on cutting wooden tiles.
  • Screws may need to be tightened or replaced. When cutting to size, you should ensure that the screws are offset if necessary.
  • The wooden tiles should not be firmly bonded to the substrate so that they can swell and shrink in changing weather conditions.
  • You should keep a minimum distance of 10-15 mm from solid structures such as walls and door thresholds.

Laying in parallel

The wooden slats are always arranged on the grille in the same ratio to the eyelets and plug-in connections of the plastic grille. It is therefore possible to lay the tiles both with parallel slats and in a checkerboard pattern. However, laying with parallel slats has the disadvantage that the tiles stabilize each other less well.

Laying in the chessboard

Laying in a checkerboard pattern offers greater stability compared to parallel laying and is therefore the recommended laying method. During installation, some tiles that have already been laid must be lifted slightly in order to slide the eyelets of the next tile underneath.
