Cutting wooden tiles

Not every terrace or balcony can be completely covered with the 30 x 30 cm wooden tiles. For this reason, the tiles sometimes have to be cut to size at the side edges of the planned wooden floor. You can find out how to do this and what you need to bear in mind here.

Instructions for cutting wooden tiles to size

  1. Lay the wooden tiles on your surface up to the edge where a complete tile no longer fits.
  2. Measure the required tile size with a folding rule or tape measure. You should keep a distance of 10-15 mm from solid structures.
  3. Mark the cut on the top of the wooden tile with a pencil.
  4. Check whether there are screws in the planned cut and remove them before cutting.
  5. Cut along the marked line.
  6. Check whether the wooden slats are still sufficiently attached after cutting and, if necessary, screw the wooden slats to the plastic grille from the underside using additional screws.
  7. Sand the cut edge to avoid splinters and hard edges.

Tips for cutting wooden tiles to size

  • The best way to cut wood tiles is with a circular saw or hand-held circular saw. It is also possible to cut it to size with a fox tail or jigsaw, but this is more laborious.
  • If you are working with an electric handsaw, secure the wooden tiles to a firm surface beforehand using a screw clamp.
  • Start laying the tiles at one corner of the surface so that you only have to cut the tiles for one or two sides of the surface if possible.
  • With a good electric saw, wood and plastic mesh can be cut at the same time.
  • You will achieve the best cut if you cut the tiles on the top side.
