BETTERWOOD ” CONSULTING ” WOOD TILES ” DURABILITY

Durability of wooden tiles

Of course, the resistance class of the wood used determines the durability of the tile: Tropical woods generally have a significantly higher durability outdoors than European woods. However, the material of the plastic grille is also relevant.

Durable by nature

While a wood of resistance class 1 – such as the Cumaru or teak wood of the wooden tiles at Betterwood – has a service life of over 25 years according to the DIN standard, a wood tile with a lower resistance class, such as Douglas fir or acacia, can be attacked by fungi after just a few years. You can find an overview of the resistance class of the best-known decking woods in our wood lexicon .

Constructive wood protection

In addition to the natural durability of wood, other external factors determine the durability of wood. The DIN standard for wood durability should therefore only be seen as a guide. In shady places where the wood is exposed to constant moisture, its durability is reduced compared to a sunny, rather dry environment. In addition, rainwater drainage should be ensured – for example by means of a weatherproof plastic grid. Which plastic grating our tiles use can be found on the next page.
