Use of solid wood panels

There are many different areas of application for wooden boards: in furniture construction, as tables or kitchen worktops. Particularly durable and dimensionally stable woods such as teak can even be used in wet and outdoor areas: as washbasins or bathroom furniture and even in shipbuilding, as garden tables or for outdoor kitchens. However, each area of application places different demands on the product.

Desk and conference table

The requirements for a table top for office work are relatively low. It should have a pleasant surface, have a good effect on the room climate and not be too cold. Many types of wood meet these criteria – in contrast to metal or plastic desks. However, the table frames are particularly important for office desks, as these allow the desks to be highly customized: with castors, height adjustment or an adjustable slope, the desk becomes the most pleasant place to work. At Betterwood, we have opted for the design classic among office table frames: our Eiermann table frames.

Kitchen table and dining room table

The table where the family comes together to eat is often the center of the household. It should be able to withstand a lot: Wine, coffee and grease will change it over time. A high-quality solid wood table, however, will show the traces of time, but above all it will add character. With the right care the table will last for generations.

Kitchen worktop

The demands placed on a kitchen worktop are high: it must be able to withstand moisture and not react so sensitively to scratches. Particularly hard and resistant wood such as teak is better suited to this than European wood. However, other materials can also be considered for worktops – such as stone or plastic. Here you can find a comparison.

In wet areas, the demands on the material are even higher than in the kitchen. If you want the warm aesthetics of wood, there is practically no way around teak, because no other wood is so resistant to wood-destroying fungi and at the same time has such good dimensional stability.

Furniture construction

High-quality furniture can be made from solid wood panels. With our different panel thicknesses of 18mm to 40mmour individual cuts and teak slats make it possible for even the most ambitious do-it-yourselfer to build their own furniture.

Exterior and shipbuilding

Wooden boards experience the highest stress outdoors and on the high seas. Teak is the best wood for boats and gardens thanks to its excellent dimensional stability and maximum natural durability. And even if the wood and glue meet the requirements for outdoor use, the construction method is just as important to ensure that the furniture remains in shape and beautiful under the influence of the weather.
