Bangkirai is not a tree species in its own right but a collective term for numerous Asian species. Woods known as “Bangkirai” have the largest market share among tropical woods in Germany. The wood quality can vary greatly within the tree species group. The tree species Yellow Ballau is usually sold as Bangkirai. However, other types of wood can also bear the name Bangkirai. It is therefore very difficult to clearly analyze the technical properties of Bangkirai.
Bestseller Bangkirai
The wood species with the trade name Bangkirai conquered the European market in the 1990s. The quality here was usually very good. However, recently imported goods have increasingly been found to have significant defects. The strong demand in recent years has led to massive deforestation in Asia. Wood tends to wash out its ingredients outdoors, resulting in soiling of the surface and surrounding components.
Alternatives to Bangkirai
At Betterwood, we have decided against importing Bangkirai because the quality risk is too great and the origin is often unclear. As an alternative to Bangkirai you will find Betterwood decking boards made of Garapa and Cumaru with very good technical properties.
