Origin & character of the wood
Sapelli originates mainly from the tropical forests of West and Central Africa. The tree grows there in natural stands and has been exported for decades. Ghana and the Ivory Coast used to dominate, but today the focus is more on Central Africa.
Tropical roots with elegance
The fresh heartwood is pinkish brown and quickly darkens to a rich reddish brown. The sapwood is gray to yellowish and clearly defined. Striking is the strong interlocked growthwhich creates decorative shiny streaks on radial surfaces.
Decorative wood with solid properties
Sapelli is easy to machine, sand and turn and offers excellent surface qualities. Due to the alternating grain pattern, gentle drying is possible. drying is important to avoid warping.
